What are Hadith and Sunnah?

Hadith and Sunnah both have great importance in Islam and Muslims. Both are related to the beloved Prophet of Allah. Hadith is referred to the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) during his Prophet Hood of 23 years. It includes everything that happened in the life of Prophet Muhammad and its companions and everything he said about that time and future.  In a word, Hadith is the preaching of Prophet Muhammad.

And when it comes to Sunnah it is referred to all the actions, statements, and the way of life of Prophet Muhammad. It includes the actions of Prophet Abraham that Prophet Muhammad implemented after modifying them Both Hadith and Sunnah are the important aspects of religion Islam. In a word, Sunnah is how Prophet led his life. In the Quran, Allah ordered all the Muslims to obey the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and follow him which include both Hadith and Sunnah.

How Many Types Of hadith are There?

Hadith has many different types of Hadith based on its classifications. Below are some of the types of hadith according to which they are classified.

According to Rejection and Acceptance:

As per the rejection and acceptance of Hadith, the following are the two types of Hadith.

  • Hadith Maqbul
  • Hadith Madrud

Hadith Maqbul:

A Hadith is known as Hadith Maqbul, if there are available pieces of evidence that scholars have followed it and acted upon it.

Hadith Madrud:

A Hadith is known as Hadith Madrud or Mansuk, if its text or speech is nullified by any other Hadith.

According To The Reference Of Hadith:

As per the reference of Hadith, it has the following three types

  • Hadith Marfu
  • Hadith Mauquf
  • Hadith Maqtu

Hadith Marfu:

Marfu Hadith is the type of Hadith which is attributed to Prophet Muhammad and is narrated by his companions.

Hadith Mauquf:

Mauquf Hadith is the type of hadith in which Sanad ends on companions of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). In its words, deeds and explanations regarding the future generations are made.

Hadith Maqtu:

Maqtu Hadith is the type of Hadith in which there is a broken chain of narrators. This type refers to the sayings and actions that are attributed to the successors or followers of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

According To The Nature Of Words:

As per the nature of the words of Hadith, the following are its two types.

Hadith Qudsi:

It is the statements of Allah which is quoted by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and that is not present in the Quran.

Hadith Nabwi:

Hadith Nabwi includes the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), which is not narrated by Allah but Prophet Said himself.

According To The Authenticity:

As per the authenticity of Hadith, the following are the four types of Hadith.

  • Sahih
  • Hasan
  • Da’if
  • Mandu

As per the authenticity and reliability of Sanand, Hadith has four types.

Sahih:

It is the most authentic type of Hadith that passes all the tests and can be referred to as the saying of Prophet without any question. Each reporter that narrates it is trustworthy and honest.

Hasan:

It is referred to as a good and authentic Hadith but some of it’s reported is ambiguous.

Da’if:

It is the weak type of Hadith that raises many questions about its authenticity. Either its chain of reports is discontinuous or its reporter has a bad character.

Mandu:

It is the forged or fabricated type of Hadith whose text is against the ethics and norms of Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). Its reporters are liars.

How Many Types Of Sunnah Are There?

Sunnah is the essence of Islam upon which the fiqh is based and it has following types;

Sunnah Qawaliyyah:

Sunnah Qawaliyyah includes all the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) that were noted down by his companions.

Sunnah Filiyyah:

Sunnah Filiyyah includes all the actions of Prophet Muhammad that were related to both religion and the world.

Sunnah Taqrirriyah:

Sunnah Taqrirriyah includes all the actions that were performed in front of the Prophet and he didn’t oppose them or showed his pleasure on them.

What is the Importance Of  Sunnah In Islam?

Sunnah has great importance in Islam. Sunnah is the practical implementation of the Quran. We cannot understand practice commands of the Quran without following Sunnah. For instance, the Quran has ordered all Muslims to offer five times prayer in a day but in the Quran, there is no method mentioned to perform it. To see how Prayer is offered we have to consult the Sunnah, in which the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) taught us the way. You can never understand the Quran by turning away from Sunnah. Quran and Sunnah are like the light from the same moon.

What Is The Relationship Between Hadith And Sunnah?

Both Hadith and Sunnah are related to our beloved prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).  No one can understand Quranic verses without understating Sunnah and Hadith. Hadith and Sunnah are the practical implementations of the Quran, without them, we cannot obey and follow the guidelines of Allah to gain success in both religion and worldly affairs. Hadith and Sunnah are like the two sides of the same tale.

What Is The Main Difference Between Hadith And Sunnah?

The Hadith and Sunnah are often regarded as synonyms of each other, but this is not the case. They are different from each other. Hadith is regarded as the narration of words, actions, and deeds which were approved by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). Sunnah which means the beaten path, it refers to the actions of Prophet Abraham that Prophet Muhammad implemented it after modifying them. Moreover, the Sunnah only includes the practical aspects of Islam like Hajj, Nikkah but Hadith includes all the religious, worldly affairs, intellectual and historical aspects of Islam. Also, the explanations of the Quran and Sunnah lie in the domain of Hadith.
